What’s Wrong with Using Design Templates?

Why should you have a custom website?

Design templates and themes are generic and built for a whole range of purposes. This means there is likely to be elements that are quite what you want. They are also likely to have a lot of unnecessary code which could slow your website down.

Originality – No design template will be unique to you, there will be many other companies and websites using the same template. This could mean your audience confuses your website with other websites they have seen. By having a custom website design, you eliminate this happening as your site will be unique to your business. A custom website allows you to stand out more and be easily distinguished from your competition.

Although most templates and themes can be customised, the core elements are still the same. There are always limitations on how much they can be customised and it’s generally a very time-consuming process.

Responsiveness - Design templates are often not responsive across all devices. They mostly work on desktop but are not completely responsive so some elements may not work on mobile or tablets. This is mostly due to the fact that templates and themes are built “one for all” scenarios.

SEO – Websites that are created using design templates often don’t rank as well as custom websites. This is due to speed and responsiveness. A Custom website design is much easier to optimise for search engines as there should be no excess code and can easily be made fully responsive.

In the long-term, it is much better to have a custom website to properly represent your business. At Guzzbury Studio, all our websites are custom coded, we do not use any pre-built themes or templates.
