Where is website design going in 2021?

With technology rapidly evolving, some fairly bold moves were made in the design world over the last 10 years so we are always excited to see what may be coming next!

Dark themes are currently taking hold of the world. WhatsApp and many other iOS and Android apps introduced a dark mode early in 2020 and later on in the year software like Microsoft Teams and Google Meet took on the idea. Google says: “Give your eyes a rest by turning Google Meet dark mode” Towards the end of 2020 we are seeing more and more website designs go down the route of dark themes.

Alongside the dark, minimalism started creeping in at the latter end of 2019 and continued to bloom this year, 2021 is looking to be the full blossoming of white space and minimalistic elements in website design services. White space is easy on the eye and makes the website designs very user friendly.

At another end of the scale, professionals are predicting even more website design services will follow the “Anti-Design” movement. This is very raw, ‘in your face bold’ and can be slightly repulsive! Nevertheless, this brutal design movement is very eye-catching and attention grabbing.

Illustrations are also on the rise. Many larger companies are using illustrations to give their design a fun edge. Custom illustrations are created from scratch so can really help to bring life into your brand but still be aligned with your brand guidelines.

It isn't necessarily always a good thing to keep up with the trends as it will mean your website design goes out of fashion very quickly and will constantly need design tweaks. It’s a good idea to discuss this with your website designer as they should be able to advise on what trends may be short-lived. Take a step back and look at the trends over a 5- or 10-year period to help you easily identify those which are likely to fade out in the short-term future. At Guzzbury Studio – website design services, Southwest, we believe that keeping up with some design changes and trends is necessary, but you can’t incorporate them all!
